I recently spent a pleasant Saturday afternoon at a friends studio working with a new model to me called Jody. Our aim was to do some tradition high key shots with her dressed in her martial arts gear as well as some very moody low key head & shoulders portraits.
The high key shots were using 4 ceiling mounted lights, 2 Bowens 500’s at 45 degrees to the model using softbox’s and 2 interfit’s fitted with spill kills for the background.
For the low key portraits we switched off the studio flash and instead switched to a 5 light fluorescent cool continuous head. This is the first time I have used one and I really like control it gives you with very little effort. One thing I did notice (although this may have been due to the close proximity of the head) that you get much larger catch lights in the eye’s.
Jody was a joy to work with and certainly will be used by me again.
